The Miers Mishandling
Drudge has some breaking stories about Miers that could be troubling.
This Harriet Miers appointment to the Supreme Court was a supreme mistake in my book. I've withheld judgement so far on the issue out of ignorance but some things are becoming clear.
Appointment of an insider to the Supreme Court smacks of cronyism and looks bad to those of us who like the President.
Not rewarding those conservative/originalist judges who've spent their career fighting for their beliefs, which I share, is pretty deflating.
Of course, he's giving us the 'trust me on this' speech but I just have a bad feeling. The White House's handling of this appointment continues to worry me.
But there's an explanation of course!
Are supposed to believe that neither Janice Rogers Brown nor Priscilla Owen, had the guts to go for this open seat on the Supreme Court? Or were they even considered? One of them would have been the best choice if you ask me. But what do I know eh? Vote here to voice your opinion on who you think it should be.
Well, I'll tell ya what I know. I know I want a President has a backbone. I want to see him put up an established conservative judge in the mold of Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas, whos decisions protect the Constitution and his record is there for all of us to see and understand.

From Reuters:Why in the world is this the first and pretty much only thing we know about her so far? That's bizarre and comes off to me as some sort of smoke screen. Tossing a little red meat to us rabid religious people. Meat smells foul to me.
"People are interested to know why I picked Harriet Miers. They want to know Harriet Miers' background, they want to know as much as they possibly can before they form opinions. And part of Harriet Miers' life is her religion."
But there's an explanation of course!
McClellan said it was "just a couple" of candidates who had withdrawn from consideration. What in the world?! Is he saying that she's like the third string? Yikes.

From Washington Times,It's time to get the sleeves get rolled up battle in the arena of ideas over who's principals are better for this country. This is an impossible demand when you see the tangled web of political drama that is Captiol Hill. Oh well...
"There is a big difference between a political conservative and a judicial conservative," Mr. Weyrich said. "If she doesn't have a deep-governing judicial philosophy, she will get sucked into this whole system that puts pressure on members of the Supreme Court."
Thanks for the add to your blog roll. I put you on mine too.
Meirs is a very, very bad pick for SCROTUM... I mean SCOTUS.

I think it has more to do with people just not wanting to be drug through the mud. It would take more than an appointment to SCOTUS for me to take the crap that these people take when being interogated by the judicial committee

I hear ya there DPT, but if they want to be a SCOTUS Justice they need to have some backbone. I have a hard time believing Janice Rogers Brown or Priscilla Owen both turned down this seat. If so, they wouldn't have been a good choice.
On the other hand, I'd have a real hard time keeping a level head if I had to listen to Kenn*hic*edy or Biden shoot off their mouths at me.
