Headlines and Happenings

Saturday morning headline scan:
Report Warns Democrats Not to Tilt Too Far Left
George Lakoff of the University of California at Berkeley: "The best rhetoric will fail if the public rejects the substance of a candidate's agenda or entertains doubts about his integrity."
That's why he gets paid the big bucks at Beserkly! Is this the first time Lackoff has been introduced to the outside world where the working people are? Quite the rude awakening I'm sure.

Bush Plan Shows U.S. Is Not Ready for Deadly Flu
WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 - A plan developed by the Bush administration to deal with any possible outbreak of pandemic flu shows that the United States is woefully unprepared for what could become the worst disaster in the nation's history.

The 381-page plan calls for quarantine and travel restrictions but concedes that such measures "are unlikely to delay introduction of pandemic disease into the U.S. by more than a month or two."
Therefore we should just forget it then. In fact, we should leave the borders wide open and give red carpet welcomes to those infected with the flu from China to keep from hurting their feelings.

We're all going to die anyhow.

Terror in the heartland?
Not more than 100 yards from the Oklahoma-Kansas State football game on Saturday, OU student Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, blew himself up in what was initially believed to be a simple suicide. While his decision to kill himself seemed to match a personality friends and family describe as detached and strange, disturbing facts are beginning to emerge suggesting that Mr. Hinrichs had more sinister designs, like perhaps taking a few of the 84,000 nearby fans with him.

The FBI says that it has still no reason to believe Mr. Hinrichs was involved in a larger terrorist plot. Similarly, it has no information that suggests there is any additional threat to the OU-area. But in light of these frightening facts, the FBI mustn't rule anything out.
But then again, they can't rule anything in because the lawyers at the Pentagon would trip over themselves to shut it down...
Able Danger anyone?
